The Windy City Flickoff Brings the Drama to Chicago
The Windy City Flickoff is officially in the books, and Chicago showed up in a major way.
Hosted at Recess Bar in Chicago, Illinois and sponsored by VIXXV, this latest stop on the Binho Major circuit delivered one of the most electric events of the season so far. With a 60 player tournament, players traveled in from all over the country to battle for a Major title, World Championship implications, and the chance to leave their mark in Binho history.
A National Field Touches Down in Chicago
The Windy City Flickoff brought together talent from across the country, making it one of the most diverse and competitive events on the calendar.
Among the clubs in attendance were Southeast Los Angeles Binho Club, NW Indy Binho Club, Binho OC, Oklahoma FC Binho, Gem City Binho Club, and Circle City Binho. With so many respected clubs under one roof, every part of the bracket was dangerous. There were no easy paths, no safe sections, and no shortage of players capable of making a deep run.
Group Stage Set the Tone
The group stage delivered exactly what fans hoped for: tough battles, high-level play, and a handful of early upsets that hinted at the chaos still to come.
With 60 players in the field, the margin for error was razor thin. Some of the sport’s most recognizable names looked to establish control early, while hungry challengers saw Chicago as the perfect place to build a breakthrough run.
By the time the knockout stage arrived, the bracket was loaded with proven veterans and a few lower-seeded players who had already shown they were more than capable of wrecking expectations.
Knockout Round Brought the Fire
Once the elimination rounds began, the tournament shifted into another gear.
A number of recurring Binho standouts were in the mix, including names like American Dad, Charles, and Rare Air, all of whom came in looking to assert themselves and make another major statement. But as always, the knockout stage had other ideas.
One of the first big shocks came when #24 seed Shawn L from NW Indy Binho Club knocked off #9 seed Omar from OKC Binho Club in the opening knockout round by a decisive 7-2 scoreline. It was the kind of upset that instantly gets the bracket buzzing and gives everyone notice that a lower seed is ready to make things uncomfortable.
Not long after, another huge result hit the board. #29 seed Ivan took down #4 seed Uncle Joe from Binho OC in a dramatic golden goal finish, escaping with a 7-6 win.
Then came one of the biggest breakout stories of the event.
#31 seed Sean, a Chicago native, stunned the field by taking out #2 seed Chaz in the first round and continuing his run all the way to the Final Four. Feeding off the energy of the hometown crowd, Sean turned into one of the tournament’s most compelling stories and proved that seed numbers mean very little once momentum starts building.
Final Four Delivers a Storybook Finish
By the time the bracket narrowed to four, the tournament had everything lined up for a memorable ending.
The Final Four featured:
- #1 seed American Dad
- #20 seed Hernan C
- #31 seed Sean
- #19 seed Rare Air
You had the top seed holding form, a dangerous #19 seed peaking at the right time, a #20 seed making a huge statement run, and a #31 seed hometown underdog capturing the attention of the entire room.
Sean’s dream run came to an end as he fell just short to Rare Air in the final four. The 3rd place match showcased Sean vs #1 seed American Dad where AD took charge and made sure he wouldn't miss the opportunity. American dad secured the victory and officially qualified for the Binho World Championship in New York City.
Rare Air Finally Gets His Ring
As incredible as the underdog runs were, the final word in Chicago belonged to Rare Air.
After many battles of chasing the moment and relentlessly pursuing the one achievement that had remained just out of reach, Rare Air officially secured his first ever Binho Tournament Major Ring. It was a breakthrough that had been building for a long time, and when the opportunity came, he delivered.
In the championship match, Rare Air faced off against #20 seed Hernan C and came through with a clutch 7-5 win to capture the title. It was a fitting finish to a tournament full of intensity and emotion — a hard-earned victory for a player who has been grinding toward this moment since the beginning of his Binho career.
Chicago did not just crown a champion. It delivered a career milestone.
New York Field Gets Stronger
With the Windy City Flickoff now complete, the race to the Binho World Championship in New York City took another major step forward.
The event officially added three new qualifiers to the NYC field:
- American Dad
- Sean
-
Hernan C
